La santa donna raffigurata in questo dipinto non è identificata. La palma che tiene nella mano sinistra la classifica come martire. Nuvolone fu uno dei pittori più importanti della metà del XVII secolo a Milano. È il tipico esponente dello stile lombardo della pittura, caratterizzato dal forte contrasto tra luce e ombra, e dalla dolcezza distintiva nelle sue figure.
