La linea pulita della gonna lunga e le maniche di elefante piuffy erano un aspetto tipico intorno al 1895. L'audace raggio di sole e la nube sulla gonna è asimmetrica, una caratteristica comune dell'arte e dell'artigianato giapponese. Durante la fine del XIX secolo, l'età di Japonism, kimono giapponese e libri di pattern di kimono design (Hinagata) sono stati portati in Occidente.
