Chenxian era un pittore cinese, che si pensa sia rappresentativo dei primi pittori intorno a “Obaku-shu”, una setta religiosa di Zen nella metà del XVII secolo. Non visitò il Giappone durante la sua vita, ma molte delle sue opere furono portate da monaci cinesi che andarono in Giappone. Lo stile forte e insolito della pittura di inchiostro di Chenxian ha dato gravi impatti ai pittori giapponesi a Nagasaki. Questo dipinto era stato ereditato nel tempio di Seifukuji stabilito nel 1677.
