Questa immagine è esattamente registrata nella Liber Veritatis di Claude, il libro dei disegni che il pittore ha fatto per registrare le sue composizioni e proteggersi da falsificazioni e imitatori. Sul retro del disegno Claude ha notato che l'immagine è stata fatta per Parigi, ma il cliente non è chiamato. Nel XVIII secolo, questo dipinto apparteneva al Dr. Richard Mead, il famoso collezionista di Londra. Poi, si chiamava Mattino e fu abbinato ad un altro paesaggio Claude dal titolo Evening, che non era stato concepito come il suo ciondolo.
