Dopo aver completato gli studi in belle arti, Columbano partì per Parigi per una residenza di due anni che fu finanziata principalmente dalla Contessa d’Edla. Questo supporto ha permesso a Columbano di creare uno studio sul Boulevard Raspail di Montparnasse. Questo lavoro, creato nel gennaio del 1881, fu uno dei primi prodotti in questo studio. L’assenza di un paesaggio incorniciato e il rendering della luce naturale suggerisce il rifiuto dell’artista del naturalismo, rendendo invece un nudo femminile utilizzando toni di verde, ocra e grigio.
