Sulla base della data e dell'età inscritta del sitter sul fronte di questo ritratto, Floris Gerritsz van Schoterbosch sarebbe nato intorno al 1562. Era figlio di Gerrit Willemsz van Schoterbosch. A partire dal 1579, fu registrato sotto il nome di Florentius Gerardi come studente di legge presso l'Università di Leiden. Successivamente praticò la legge, e l'8 gennaio 1602 fu giurato come consigliere presso la Corte d'Olanda, posizione che mantenne fino alla sua morte nel 1618. Alla Corte d'Olanda, si è schierato con i Remonstranti nel loro conflitto con i Contro-Remostranti. È sopravvissuto alla sua vedova, Geertruyt Jansdr van Kerkhoven e ai loro tre figli. 13Questo ritratto replica un prototipo perso del 1604.
