All'inizio degli anni '70 David Porter fu un fotografo che contribuì ad alcune delle più influenti pubblicazioni della musica rock australiana e underground (Go-Set, Daily/Planet, Rolling Stone (Australian Edition), The Digger. Porter era basato a Melbourne, il suo soggetto lo zeitgeist della sua musica Rock/Pop, teatro sotterraneo e scene di controcultura, a volte lavorando come ‘David Porter’, a volte ‘Jacques L’Affrique’, a volte ‘Jack Africa’. Nel 1973 lasciò Melbourne, smise di lavorare nella fotografia commerciale e perseguì una carriera didattica. Band of Tabalene (1972)Blues/rock band (a.k.a. Willy & The Philtones).
