Questa piccola copia dopo una tela di Francesco Bassano del 1575 circa (Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna) fu fatta come modello per una targa incisa in Teniers" Theatrum Pictorum (Antwerp, 1658), il suo catalogo di 229 dipinti italiani nella raccolta dell'arciduca Leopold Wilhelm, governatore dei Paesi Bassi spagnoli dal 1646 al 1656. Nel 1740 i duchi di Marlborough possedevano 120 pannelli di Teniers per il progetto, compreso questo.
