Il dipinto, The Country Pub, firmato D. Teniers F.(ecit) nel tratto superiore, offre lo stesso approccio pittorico complesso, il suo soggetto e modo artistico che mostra chiaramente di essere un prodotto del periodo più creativo dell'artista. La prima cosa che colpisce l'occhio è il modo magistrale in cui il pittore gestisce il gioco dell'ombra e della luce, nel ricreare la diversità spaziale dell'interno shabby di un seminterrato pub, dalla rampa di scale che porta al piano superiore, all'estensione laterale della stanza nel tratto centrale e terminando nell'elemento compositivo apparentemente minore della recessione. Come è spesso il caso nel lavoro di Teniers, l'interno è un frammento sporco, con mobili intagliati e dilapidati, con un mezzo chiodo per un tavolo e stump per sgabelli. ©Dana Roxana Hrib, European Art Gallery Guidebook, Seconda edizione, Sibiu 2011.
