"In The Green Trees, il paesaggio in Loctudy (che si trova anche in un dipinto contemporaneo, Young Girls Picking Flowers by the Sea, in precedenza nella raccolta del poeta simbolista Georges Rodenbach) è usato come l'ambientazione per una cerimonia onirica in cui una giovane ragazza si allontana da una processione per incontrare un angelo da cui è separata da una parete corta; questa è un'allegoria drammatizzata vissuta di chiamata o di chiamata Maurice Denis, che apprezzò molto questo dipinto, l'aveva depositato alla Galerie Druet il 7 gennaio 1917 solo per riprenderlo il 22 aprile 1918, mai più per farne parte."
