Artista di Haarlem, attivo dal 1675 al 1717, lavorò anche a Parigi, Francia (1684) e Gran Bretagna (1690). Pupil di Nicolaes Berchem (1621/22–1683), Jan van Huchtenburg (1647–1646) e Hendrick Mommers (1619/20–1693). Paesaggi italiani dipinti con scene di caccia e di battaglia, campi, soggetti biblici (paesaggi con elementi di pittura di genere) e ritratti.
