Il motivo a dita splayed simile alla forbice potrebbe essere stato ispirato dai gesti dei ballerini espressionisti. Con la spalla sinistra alzata, l'artista sembra difendersi contro lo spettatore. Il suo corpo haggard e angolare si estende nello spazio. Altrettanto espressivo sono il suo volto e lo sguardo: labbra aperte, palpebre rosse, sopracciglia alzate e insolitamente spesse, e le sconcertanti smudges viola e marrone sui suoi zigomi. Come in molti altri nudi e ritratti degli anni tra il 1910 e il 1912, la figura è elevata da una linea di contorno bianca, dando al corpo l'aspetto di essere circondato da un'aura.
