Eiraku Hozen eccelleva a copiare la tarda dinastia Ming sottoglaze porcellane blu “Shonzui” che era stato commissionato come cerimonie di tè da maestri di tè giapponesi, e questo lavoro è un esempio stellare di quelle abilità. Al contrario, la combinazione di motivi ape e drago era un'innovazione Hozen, e l'iscrizione a 18 caratteri scritta in cornici circolari intorno all'interno del bordo della tazza costituisce un dibattito verbale, pitting l'ape contro il drago.
