Come Vigée Le Brun ha ricordato la contessa Skavronskaya (1761–1829): “Era completamente inattivo tutto il giorno, non aveva istruzione, e la sua conversazione era abbastanza vuota. Ma nonostante tutto, grazie alla sua bella faccia e alla sua dolcezza angelica, ha avuto un fascino incomparabile.” In questo splendido ritratto, il lettino guarda un caso ovale che deve contenere un ritratto in miniatura del marito.
