Il patrigno dell’artista, Monsieur Le Sèvre (1724-1810), era un fabbro d’oro e argenteria che portò la famiglia di Vigée a vivere sopra il suo negozio in rue Saint-Honoré. Viene mostrato seduto a una scrivania, leggendo, in un abito di raso e copriletto, tipico at-home abbigliamento per gli uomini del tempo. La rappresentazione simpatica è l'intenso disprezzo che Vigée provava per lui. L'ha accusato di aver accumulato il suo reddito.
