La contessa (1759-1834) indossa ricchi colori complementari e piega una lettera alla quale Vigée Le Brun ha abilmente affisso la sua firma. Secondo il pittore, la babysitter aveva "un volto affascinante e dolce, anche se si poteva vedere qualcosa di falso nei suoi occhi." Infatti, per distogliere l'attenzione pubblica dal suo legame con Calonne, controllore generale delle finanze, la contessa diffonde voci che era Vigée Le Brun che era impegnato nella vicenda.
