La scultura in bronzo macabro di Pierre Eugène Emile Hébert raffigura una figura arbustiva e scheletrica che, dopo essersi alzata dalla tomba, ha abbracciato una figura di una giovane donna nuda la cui polpa morbida fornisce un netto contrasto ai suoi arti gaunt, angolari. Il titolo poetico della scultura può essere tradotto come “Per sempre e sempre!” o “Sempre! Mai! Questo titolo enigmatico invita una varietà di interpretazioni sul transitorio della vita. Il titolo comune per questo argomento è Morte e la Vergine. Un'interpretazione più recente suggerisce che la scultura è una meditazione sulla possibilità dell'immortalità. Un altro suggerito da diversi contemporanei di Hébert è che il cadavere avvolta è in realtà l'amante della giovane donna che è risorto per rivendicarla al momento della sua morte.
