I primi decoy nordamericani furono scolpiti dai nativi americani. Creato da Shinnecock indiano Eugene Cuffee (1866-1941), questo unico ermeno decoy lungo, forma spinosa e schema di piuma dipinto si collega a una tradizione che pre-data l'arrivo europeo alla East End di Long Island. Cuffee era una guida di caccia e pittore di casa, principalmente attivo a Southampton; i suoi decoys sono segnati dal loro piumaggio distintamente elaborato.
