Un barometro è uno strumento utilizzato per raccogliere dati meteorologici misurando i cambiamenti nella pressione atmosferica. Secondo l'iscrizione, questo barometro è stato progettato per prevedere il tempo nell'arcipelago filippino, come proposto da padre Federico Faura. Federico Faura (1840–97) è stato un prete gesuita spagnolo che insegnò matematica e creò l'Osservatorio Meteorológico del Ateneo Municipal de Manila, ora noto come Osservatorio di Manila.
