Jean de Fiennes è una delle sei figure che compongono il monumentale di Rodin The Burghers of Calais. Nel 1347 Jean de Fiennes fu capitano della città di Calais. Dopo un assedio di sei mesi, aprì le porte della città e, con cinque dei suoi coetanei, si presentò alla presenza di Edoardo III. Jean offrì al re le chiavi della città e una richiesta di misericordia e perdono per i cittadini di Calais. Edward accettò l'offerta e, attraverso l'intervento della regina inglese, Philippa di Hainault, alla fine risparmiò la vita dei burghers. Rodin percepisce che Jean de Fiennes sia il membro più giovane del gruppo ed è raffigurato con un corpo giovane e capelli lunghi e ondulati.
