La scena storica che rappresenta il momento in cui il primo presidente della Repubblica, il maresciallo Deodoro da Fonseca, fece il giuramento della Costituzione federale il 26 febbraio 1891. Il dipinto raffigura diversi deputati che sono membri dell'Assemblea Nazionale Costituente, presieduta da Prudente de Moraes, la cui figura occupa il centro del dipinto. Attualmente, il lavoro è esposto presso la Sala Ministeriale del Palácio do Catete (Museu da República).
