Questa immagine è un buon esempio del particolare interesse che Lameyer ha mostrato in temi arabi durante tutta la sua carriera. È stato un interesse che ha sviluppato con successo, con uno stile tutto suo, influenzato dalla moda per l'Oriente promossa dalla sua contemporanea Mariano Fortuny. Insieme, viaggiarono in Marocco nel 1863, e più tardi in Algeria, Egitto e Medio Oriente. Come con tanti artisti europei del tempo, l'esotismo colorato e le usanze di quei paesi hanno fatto una profonda impressione su Lameyer mentre era lì, e poi sarebbe diventato i temi preferiti dei suoi dipinti a olio.
