Questo dipinto raffigura una bella tazza di ceramica bianca riempita d'acqua, appoggiata su un piattino d'argento, ornata da una singola rosa su un piano di legno. Il fiore qui potrebbe riferirsi ad acqua di rosa, una bevanda profumata popolare nel XVII secolo, o avere un significato più profondo, religioso. Il motivo della tazza riempita d'acqua è familiare da altre opere di Zurbaran: appare nella sua famosa vita morta del 1633, Still-Life with Basket of Oranges (Norton Simon Museum of Art, Pasadena) e in almeno due dei suoi dipinti religiosi. Negli ultimi dipinti la tazza di acqua e rosa allude alla purezza e all'amore delle Vergini. Il fiore potrebbe anche essere interpretato come emblema, riferendosi alla Vergine come la Rosa Mistica. Questa tela è un frammento di un lavoro più grande: il bordo sinistro è intatto, mentre gli altri tre lati sono stati tagliati.
