Friedrich Eibner è stato interessato principalmente nelle interpretazioni architettoniche. Oltre la sua patria bavarese, lavorò anche lungo il Reno, in Francia, e nel Nord Italia. In un viaggio aSpagna nell'entourage del principe russo Meshchersky, produsse numerosi disegni e acquerelli, 65 dei quali il principe acquisì e organizzò diriprodurre come album di facsimile. Più tardi, dal 1868 in poi, Eibner iniziò aricevere commissioni dal re bavarese Ludwig II. Qui Eibner mostra la scena romantica e atmosferica. Usa l'illuminazione come mezzo di regolazione dell'umore che assorbe la città
