Di tutti i seguaci di Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg (1783-1853), padre fondatore dell'età d'oro della pittura danese, solo Petzholdt si dedicò esclusivamente al paesaggio. Anche se la posizione precisa di questo piccolo punto di vista non è stata determinata, è stato evidentemente dipinto in Germania, dove l'artista ha disegnato nel 1829 e ancora l'anno successivo.
