Gli ambienti bucolici occidentali di Kyoto sono raffigurati nella scena di primavera di apertura di questo rotolo. L'opera segue da vicino un dipinto nel Museo d'Arte Tokugawa a Nagoya dell'insegnante di Genki, Maruyama Ōkyo (1733–1795), che ha sostenuto tecniche realistiche a Kyoto del XVIII secolo. Attingendo ai temi tradizionali delle famose località panoramiche e delle attività stagionali, Genki ha rappresentato i comuni cittadini di Kyoto che svolgono attività quotidiane e pongono l'accento sul paesaggio.
