Harvey eseguì questo acquerello come uno dei quaranta cosiddetti Paesaggi atmosferici del Nord America, che iniziò a fare circa 1836 e in primo luogo esposto come un gruppo discreto a New York nel 1843. Le immagini formano l'unica serie di disegni americani dedicati alle regioni geografiche osservate in tempi specifici di giorno e in condizioni meteorologiche specifiche; più importanti sono i primi acquerelli topografici eseguiti in America utilizzando una tecnica di stipplo, sviluppata da Harvey come pittore di miniature sull'avorio. Anche se ci sono alcune ampie aree di lavaggio, come nel rendering del fienile, la maggior parte degli altri passaggi sono accuratamente incisi o stippati.
