Sotto il caldo sole di mezzogiorno, gli uomini e i cani hanno colpito il loro passo. I puntatori hanno svuotato un uccello, un colpo si spegne, e una cresta idraulici a terra, i piedi nell'aria. Lo sport della caccia agli uccelli nell'Inghilterra settecentesca cambiò dal trapping degli uccelli con grano e reti per spararli con una pistola a carica di museruola mentre erano sull'ala. Così, nel giorno di Stubbs, “scagliare il volo” avrebbe sfidato gli appassionati, che avevano bisogno di un obiettivo costante e di una consapevolezza della natura per portare nella loro modesta cattura.
