Georges Jacob (1739-1814) si specializzò nello stile neoclassico, che gradualmente soppiantava lo stile Rococo dalla metà del XVIII secolo. La famosa regina di Luigi XVI, Marie Antoinette, era un fan di questo stile più semplice e simmetrico. Questa sedia porta l'iscrizione "Meuble de la Crowne" (Mobili della Corona) sotto il sedile ed è stata fatta per il palazzo a St. Cloud. Il palazzo, che era magnificamente posizionato su una collina che domina la Senna, fu acquistato dal re come rifugio per la regina e i loro figli.
