Quando i libri stampati cominciarono a soppiantare manoscritti, i loro produttori si sforzarono di far sembrare il prodotto libri scritti a mano. In questo libro di ore, le illustrazioni stampate in legno sono state "illuminate" con il colore, come i libri di colorazione che sono stati riempiti con la pittura a mano. Questo libro è stato realizzato dai fratelli Gilles e Germain Hardouyn, che sono stati registrati a Parigi come stampanti e illuminatori.
