Questa è una delle prime opere di Giorgione. Il soggetto fu preso dalle Antichità Ebraiche da Giuseppe (2. 9:7) Mosè fu adottato dalla figlia del faraone. Un giorno in tribunale il faraone mise scherzosamente la sua corona sul capo di Mosè bambino che immediatamente la gettò a terra e calpestò su di esso. Questo è stato preso come un presagio dai cortigiani che Mosè avrebbe rovesciato il faraone. Per provarlo, sono stati portati due piatti, uno contenente carbone e le altre ciliegie. Mosè, guidato da un angelo, scelse i carboni e li mise in bocca che fu bruciato. Fu così dimostrato innocente di qualsiasi intento tradimento.
