Tiepolo illustra un celebre passaggio da Virgilio" Eneide che descrive come Nettuno ha calmato i venti per salvare l'eroe di Troia Aeneas da naufragio. Nettuno alza il braccio per sfidare le personificazioni dei venti, che fuggono in primo piano. Giove, identificabile con la sua aquila, è mostrata coraggiosamente anteriormente, una decisione presa in modo che la scena appaia illusionisticamente attraverso il soffitto dipinto. Questo disegno può essere legato alla decorazione di Tiepolo di una stanza con un'apoteosi di Aeneas (1764–66) nel Palacio Real di Madrid.
