Un pastore sembra guidare il suo gregge di pecore inquisitive dalla campagna italiana nella galleria. Castiglione dipinse soggetti storici e religiosi, come l'Ecstasy di San Francesco, appese nella galleria adiacente, ma la sua esplorazione di paesaggio e animali come questo erano particolarmente apprezzati e influenti. Tecnicamente innovativo sia come pittore che come stampatore, Castiglione ha usato il suo supporto in rame per imboccare questa scena con calda luminosità.
