Questo ritratto di un uomo non identificato, raffigurato in un interno con un paesaggio visto attraverso la finestra aperta a sinistra, deriva in definitiva da una composizione sviluppata dai primi maestri olandesi, vale a dire Dieric Bouts nel suo 1462 Ritratto di un uomo (National Gallery, Londra). Datato 1491, avanza la formula catturando il demeanore autoassicurato della sitter, che si rivolge direttamente allo spettatore con uno sguardo laterale. Il dipinto è stato assegnato a varie scuole regionali tedesche, ma la sua analogia più vicina si trova nei primi ritratti di Dürer, che era attivo a Norimberga.
