Gyoshu (1894-1935) è noto per l'applicazione del ritratto realistico imparato dalla pittura occidentale e pittura cinese alla pittura giapponese. Affascinantemente dipinse un gatto abbracciato tranquillamente addormentato come la luce morbida dal sole che sorge riempiendo l'atmosfera. Anche se fiori e foglie non sono disegnati, il modo in cui l'albero è potentemente espandere i suoi rami verso il cielo non è più wintry.
