Hishida Shunsô era della città di Iida nella Prefettura di Nagano. Insieme a individui come Okakura Tenshin e Yokoyama Taikan, è stato coinvolto nella creazione di Nihon Bijutsu-in (Japan Art Institute). Tentò uno stile di pittura senza linee, chiamato “Môrô-tai” (stile vago), e insieme a Taikan, promosse il movimento per riformare la pittura in stile giapponese alla fine del periodo Meiji. Questa composizione è un lavoro importante posizionato nel primo periodo del Môrô-tai. Scorre l'espressione dell'aria e della luce attraverso le tecniche di gradazione ed esprime abilmente il fascino subtly bello e silenzioso di una valle in mezzo all'autunno.
