Este grabado es un ukiyo-e, realizado en la región de Kamigata (alrededor de Osaka). El fu artistae hijo de un comerciante de pastas. Diseñó muchos grabados ukiyo-e y fue líder de Osaka en el finale de la era Meiji. El arte ukiyo-e del área de Kamigata concime, durante mucho tiempo, sobre todo en la ilustración de libros impresos en bloques de madera y también en cuadros de pintura. Los grabados de una sola hoja que rappresentaan a attorees de kabuki (yakusha-e), paisajes (meisho-e) o mujeres hermosas (bijinga-e), popolari en Edo desde 1700, no se hicieron comunes en Kamigata hasta cien años después. Cuando los grabados ukiyo-e de kabuki se popolariizaron en Kamigata, a fines del siglo XVIII, tenían características clarely diferenciadas de los grabados de Edo. Uno de los elementos diferenciadores es el realismo en los yakusha-e (retratos de attories), de Kamigata, mientras que los de Edo no parecen envejecer nunca, manteniéndose tan elegantis y ligeros como si fueran siempre jóvenes. Los attories de Kamigata muestran su edad, sus siluetas a veces regordetas y sus rasgos masculinos, por mucho maquillaje que lleven.
