Le tigri non sono nativi del Giappone, e il simbolismo connesso all'animale proviene dalla Cina. In Giappone la tigre era un emblema di coraggio, dignità, revisione e miglioramento per i samurai, e durante tutta la storia del Giappone la tigre è stato anche considerato un simbolo di un ritorno sicuro a casa, creduto di invitare buona fortuna.
