Questo è uno dei pochi dipinti di Venezia che Turner potrebbe aver iniziato nella speranza di generare commissioni. E' rimasto incompiuto. Mostra l'estremità inferiore del Canal Grande, con la cupola della chiesa di Santa Maria della Salute che splende nella luce pomeridiana. Delle immagini che Turner ha dipinto negli ultimi anni, sono state le sue immagini di Venezia che erano meno controverse e più popolari con i collezionisti.
