De Gheyn, pittore dell'Aia, potrebbe essere stato il primo maestro olandese a dipingere una vita di solo fiori, poco dopo il 1600. Ha fatto questo dipinto oltre dieci anni dopo. Mostra un bouquet profuso di molti fiori diversi. De Gheyn non ha copiato un bouquet esistente, come i fiori raffigurati qui fioriscono in diversi periodi dell'anno. Era preoccupato invece di dipingere un ‘portrait’ dei fiori più belli. Ecco perché li ha messi tutti davanti al bouquet, dove erano ugualmente visibili.
