Childs Frick aveva quasi due anni quando i Fricks commissionarono questo ritratto di lui dell'artista scozzese James Archer. Archer viaggiò negli Stati Uniti nel 1884, e mentre qui dipinse un ritratto di Andrew Carnegie, industriale di Pittsburgh e partner commerciale di Henry Clay Frick, e questo ritratto del primo figlio nato di Frick. Il ritratto mostra i bambini in un paesaggio, indossando il tipo di vestito bianco che entrambi i ragazzi e le ragazze indossavano quando molto giovane. Archer ha bambini che tengono una rosa, che nell'era vittoriana lingua di fiori significava purezza e grazia.
