Ritratto del Presidente James A. Garfield (1831-1881), XX Presidente degli Stati Uniti. Il presidente Garfield è rappresentato come un balding e barbuto, in un profilo di fronte alla sua sinistra, impostato su uno sfondo verde scuro. Anche se l’artista James Reed Lambdin ha dipinto il presidente Garfield prima di essere assassinato, probabilmente ha lavorato da una fotografia piuttosto che dalla vita, a causa della posizione notevolmente rigida del presidente e della sua apparizione come psicologicamente remota. La qualità inanimata del ritratto può anche essere attribuita al fatto che questo dipinto risale da molto tardi nella carriera dell'artista.
