Quando questo ritratto fu donato insieme a uno di un ufficiale di Wybrand de Geest (SK-A-4190) al Nationale Konst-Gallery nel 1805, la sitter fu identificata come Lamoraal, conte di Egmond (1522-68).4 Questa identificazione è stata successivamente abbandonata a favore di uno come Giustino di Nassau (1559-1631). Il confronto con i ritratti di Justinus di Nassau, come quello della Leeuwarden Series (SK-A-536) dimostra che quest'ultima identificazione è altrettanto fantasiosa.L'attribuzione a Van Ravesteyn può essere mantenuta, e questo busto-lunghezza ritratto può essere datato al secondo decennio del XVII secolo.
