In un paesaggio italiano alcuni cacciatori, vestiti in primo costume, si fermano alle rovine di un antico edificio romano. Un giovane mendicante seduto accanto a uno dei pilastri ha un cappello in mano nella speranza di ricevere alms. In primo piano è un ragazzo in un costume da caccia rosso in luce luminosa davanti a un cancello monumentale. È accompagnato da tre cani. Nelle sue mani tiene una rete piegata. Una borsa da caccia blu e la cattura della giornata - una lepre, un airone e due pernici - si trovano ai suoi piedi.
