Durante i mesi estivi, i residenti di Istanbul fuggirono dalla città angusta per cercare ristoro sulle rive del Bosforo. Le donne che facevano parte dell'harem del sultano e della grande visiera per conto di qualche volta parte di picnic e probabilmente Vanmour ha voluto rappresentare una tale occasione. Hunkiar Iskêléci era un luogo noto sul Bosforo dove si incontravano.
