Ispirata da una storia dell’Inferno di Dante, questa scultura racconta la storia del nobile italiano Ugolino de’Gherardeschi, che fu imprigionato per tradimento e affogato a morte con i suoi figli e nipoti. Quando i suoi figli morirono intorno a lui, lo implorarono di mangiare i loro corpi per poter vivere. Ugolino alla fine cedette alla sua fame e divorò i loro corpi. Questa scultura comprime l'orrore della narrazione di Dante in una piramide di cinque figure strettamente interlocking. All'apice, l'overwrought Ugolino rosicchia sulle sue mani. 71.2066
