Le numerose immagini di Peto sono state spesso commissionate, e molti contengono indizi sulle identità dei loro proprietari originali negli oggetti bloccati dietro il nastro incrociato. In questo esempio, una cartolina e una busta sono chiaramente indirizzati al Dr. Bernard Goldberg, un chiropodista e un vicino di Peto a Philadelphia. Il medico potrebbe aver chiesto all'artista di fare il dipinto. Tra gli oggetti raffigurati c'è un ritratto, presumibilmente del medico, forse raffigurante una fotografia reale scattata da Peto. Come visto qui, Peto si sforzava per gli effetti decorativi di colore e texture ed era meno interessato al realismo illusionistico di quanto fosse William Michael Harnett.
