L'acquerello era adatto alla tecnica di verniciatura fluida di Sargent e al suo interesse di lunga data nella rappresentazione dell'acqua. Sargent trasforma i suoi pigmenti in un flusso fluente con pennellate espressive e tratti di vernice blu, che si increspano sulla superficie della sua composizione per suggerire il movimento delicato della corrente.
