Santa Clara legge la Bibbia, balneando alla luce. Clara era una suora italiana del XIII secolo che viveva senza possesso e si concentrò sulla spiritualità. Aveva molti seguaci e fu dichiarata sacra quattro giorni dopo la sua morte. Il pittore Corte ha scelto di non raffigurarla in abitudine, ma ha inventato una versione medievale dei suoi vestiti e capelli stile. Questo dipinto è stato precedentemente erroneamente considerato come un ritratto di Clémence de Vernède, contessa di Corneillan e dal suo matrimonio nel 1864 Baroneness de Pagès (1818-1901) come Santa Caterina.
