Il testo inserito tra i due galli spiega la strana dinamica di questo lavoro: Un disegno di un vero e proprio roostercoming per combattere il legnorooster realizzato da Suminawa. (Suminawa ga tsukereru ki noniwatori makoto no niwatorikitaritekeru zu) Questo disegno non firmato è praticamente identico a un'illustrazione stampata a blocchi pubblicata nel romanzo popolare The Tale of the Craftsman of Hida (Hida no takumi monogatari, 1809), autore di Rokujuen Meshimori (1753–1830) e illustrato da Hokusai. L'episodio del libro rappresentato qui racconta la storia del maestro carpentiere Suminawa di Hida, che ha creato un uccello intagliato così realistico che un altro uccello lo ha scambiato per un vero. Si presume che questo sia un disegno preparatorio da cui è stato fatto il hanshita-e (il disegno di blocco).
